A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in ImageMagick (Image Processing Software) (the affected version is unknown). This affects the function ContrastStretchImage of the file MagickCore/enhance.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the project team. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-6520 since 08/02/2016. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 169071 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for ImageMagick (SUSE-SU-2016:2076-1)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The vulnerability will be addressed with the following lines of code:
