A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 21.0 (Web Browser). It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function mozilla::dom::HTMLMediaElement::LookupMediaElementURITable. Use-after-free vulnerability in the mozilla::dom::HTMLMediaElement::LookupMediaElementURITable function in Mozilla Firefox before 22.0, Firefox ESR 17.x before 17.0.7, Thunderbird before 17.0.7, and Thunderbird ESR 17.x before 17.0.7 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (heap memory corruption) via a crafted web site.
The weakness was shared 06/25/2013 by Abhishek Arya (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security Team as MFSA 2013-50 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-1684 since 02/13/2013. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66996 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox / xulrunner (CESA-2013:0981)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
