Details
A vulnerability was found in QEMU (Virtualization Software) (unknown version). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function virtqueue_map_desc of the file hw/virtio/virtio.c of the component Descriptor Handler. The manipulation of the argument length with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
The virtqueue_map_desc function in hw/virtio/virtio.c in QEMU (aka Quick Emulator) allows local guest OS administrators to cause a denial of service (infinite loop and QEMU process crash) via a zero length for the descriptor buffer.
The bug was discovered 12/09/2016. The weakness was shared 12/10/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at git.qemu.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-6490 since 07/28/2016.
