CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in PHP up to 5.6.29/7.0.14 (Programming Language Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function phar_parse_pharfile of the file ext/phar/phar.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

Integer overflow in the phar_parse_pharfile function in ext/phar/phar.c in PHP before 5.6.30 and 7.0.x before 7.0.15 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption or application crash) via a truncated manifest entry in a PHAR archive.

The bug was discovered 01/19/2017. The weakness was released 01/24/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at php.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-10159 since 01/24/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 96799 (PHP 5.6.x < 5.6.30 Multiple DoS), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370348 (Apple Mac OS X Security Update Sierra 10.12.4, El Capitan 2017-001 and Yosemite 2017-001 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2017-03-27-3)).

Upgrading to version 5.6.30 or 7.0.15 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (96799) and SecurityFocus (BID 95774†). Entries connected to this vulnerability are available at VDB-67396, VDB-67398, VDB-67420 and VDB-67724. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
