A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in GraphicsMagick 1.3.25 (Image Processing Software). Affected is the function ReadSCTImage of the file coders/sct.c of the component SCT Header Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The ReadSCTImage function in coders/sct.c in GraphicsMagick 1.3.25 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a crafted SCT header.
The bug was discovered 10/10/2016. The weakness was disclosed 02/15/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (oss-sec). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-8682 since 10/15/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 59 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 175922 (Debian Security Update for graphicsmagick (DSA 3746-1)).
