CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Wireshark 1.10.0 (Packet Analyzer Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function dissect_smtp of the file epan/dissectors/packet-smtp.c of the component PROFINET Real-Time Dissector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

The IsDFP_Frame function in plugins/profinet/packet-pn-rt.c in the PROFINET Real-Time dissector in Wireshark 1.10.x before 1.10.1 does not validate MAC addresses, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and application crash) via a crafted packet.

The weakness was published 07/26/2013 by Oliver-Tobias Ripka as wnpa-sec-2013-53 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at wireshark.org. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-4936 since 07/26/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71268 (Amazon Linux AMI : wireshark (ALAS-2013-251)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121382 (Wireshark Multiple Denial of Service Vulnerabilities (wnpa-sec-2013-41- wnpa-sec-2013-53)).

Upgrading to version 1.10.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (86029), Tenable (71268), SecurityFocus (BID 61471†), OSVDB (95715†) and Secunia (SA54296†).
