A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in ImageMagick up to 6.9.2-3 (Image Processing Software). This affects the function WriteImages of the file magick/constitute.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. The WriteImages function in magick/constitute.c in ImageMagick before 6.9.2-4 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference) via a crafted image file.
The bug was discovered 01/17/2016. The weakness was released 03/15/2017 (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-8898 since 06/02/2016.
