Details
A vulnerability was found in Jasper up to 1.900.19 (Programming Tool Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function jpc_pi_nextcprl of the file jpc_t2cod.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Integer overflow in the jpc_pi_nextcprl function in jpc_t2cod.c in JasPer before 1.900.20 allows remote attackers to have unspecified impact via a crafted file, which triggers use of an uninitialized value.
The bug was discovered 10/20/2016. The weakness was shared 03/15/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo (GitHub Repository). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-10251 since 03/12/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
