Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in virglrenderer up to 0.5.x. This affects the function parse_identifier of the file tgsi_text.c of the component Gallium Driver. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Stack-based buffer overflow in the parse_identifier function in tgsi_text.c in the TGSI auxiliary module in the Gallium driver in virglrenderer before 0.6.0 allows local guest OS users to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds array access and QEMU process crash) via vectors related to parsing properties.
The bug was discovered 02/24/2017. The weakness was disclosed 03/15/2017 by Li Qiang with 360.cn Inc. (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-6209 since 02/23/2017. The exploitability is told to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
