A vulnerability has been found in virglrenderer up to 0.5.x and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function vrend_decode_reset of the file vrend_decode.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. The vrend_decode_reset function in vrend_decode.c in virglrenderer before 0.6.0 allows local guest OS users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and QEMU process crash) by destroying context 0 (zero).
The bug was discovered 02/24/2017. The weakness was presented 03/15/2017 by Li Qiang with 360.cn Inc. (oss-sec). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-6210 since 02/23/2017. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
