A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in ImageMagick (Image Processing Software) (the affected version unknown). This affects the function ReadDIBImage of the file coders/dib.c of the component dib File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The ReadDIBImage function in coders/dib.c in ImageMagick allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a corrupted dib file.
The bug was discovered 06/02/2016. The weakness was presented 03/20/2017 (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-9845 since 06/02/2016. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
