Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5 and 6.0 allows remote attackers to view arbitrary files that contain the "{" character via script containing the cssText property of the stylesheet object, aka "Local Information Disclosure through HTML Object" vulnerability.

The issue has been introduced in 11/08/1999. The weakness was presented 05/29/2002 by GreyMagic as MS02-023 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2002-0191. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 933 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.

Applying the patch MS02-023 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com.
