The Macro Security Model in Microsoft Excel 2000 and 2002 for Windows allows remote attackers to execute code by creating a hyperlink on a drawing shape in a source workbook that points to a destination workbook containing an autoexecute macro, aka "Hyperlinked Excel Workbook Macro Bypass."

This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2002-0617. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. Applying the patch MS02-031 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
