. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in the browser engine in Mozilla Firefox 4.x through 8.0, Thunderbird 5.0 through 8.0, and SeaMonkey before 2.6 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via vectors that trigger a compartment mismatch associated with the nsDOMMessageEvent::GetData function, and unknown other vectors.
The weakness was shared 12/20/2011 by Christian Holler (Alex) (Website). The advisory is available at mandriva.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2011-3660 since 09/23/2011. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 840939 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165277 (SUSE Security Update for Mozilla Firefox (openSUSE-SU-2012:0039-2)).
Upgrading to version 9.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
