The string_insert_href function in MantisBT 1.2.0a1 through 1.2.x before 1.2.18 does not properly validate the URL protocol, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via the javascript:// protocol.
The weakness was released 01/09/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at mantisbt.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-9272 since 12/04/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
