dotCMS up to 3.3.0 HTML Pages _EXT_15_orderby sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability has been found in dotCMS up to 3.3.0 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component HTML Pages. The manipulation of the argument _EXT_15_orderby with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

SQL injection vulnerability in the "Site Browser > HTML pages" screen in dotCMS before 3.3.1 allows remote authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the orderby parameter.

The weakness was released 10/31/2016 by Elar Lang as Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in dotCMS (8x CVE) as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-8908 since 10/24/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation requires a single authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 93 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
