CVE-2025-30043 in CLININETinfo

Summary

by MITRE • 10/23/2026

CGM CLININET is vulnerable to Missing Authentication for Critical Function in the /DocManagment path. The endpoint is accessible without authentication, allowing an unauthenticated attacker in the adjacent network to retrieve the list of patient documents and download those documents.

This issue was fixed in version 2026.MS3

The vulnerability identified within CGM CLININET represents a critical failure in access control mechanisms, specifically categorized under CWE-862: Missing Authorization. This flaw resides in the /DocManagment endpoint of the application's web interface or API layer. The core technical issue is that this specific path does not enforce any form of authentication or session validation before processing requests. In secure software architecture, endpoints handling sensitive data such as patient records must implement strict identity verification to ensure that only authorized personnel can access the resources. By omitting these checks, the system fails to distinguish between authenticated users with appropriate privileges and unauthenticated actors attempting to retrieve information. This architectural oversight allows any client capable of reaching the network segment where CLININET is hosted to interact directly with this endpoint without providing credentials or tokens.

The operational impact of this vulnerability is severe due to the nature of the data involved. The /DocManagment path serves as a gateway to patient documentation, which typically includes medical histories, diagnostic reports, lab results, and other protected health information (PHI). An unauthenticated attacker positioned on an adjacent network segment can exploit this lack of authentication by sending standard HTTP GET requests to retrieve a directory listing or index of available documents. Once the list is obtained, the attacker can subsequently issue individual download requests for specific files identified in that list. This results in a complete compromise of patient confidentiality and privacy. Under regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA in the United States or GDPR in Europe, unauthorized access to PHI constitutes a significant breach with potential legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust from patients and healthcare partners.

From an offensive security perspective, this vulnerability aligns closely with MITRE ATT&CK technique T1078: Valid Accounts, although in this case, it is even more severe as no valid account is required at all. It also relates to T1530: Data from Local System, where the attacker exfiltrates data stored on the target system. The ease of exploitation means that automated scanning tools can rapidly identify and exploit this weakness across multiple instances if they are exposed to untrusted networks or improperly segmented internal networks. Attackers do not need sophisticated exploits; basic web browsing capabilities or simple scripting languages like Python with requests libraries are sufficient to enumerate and download sensitive files at scale.

To mitigate this vulnerability, immediate remediation is required by upgrading the CGM CLININET software to version 2026.MS3 or later, where the issue has been resolved according to the vendor's release notes. In addition to patching, organizations should implement network segmentation strategies to ensure that healthcare IT systems are isolated from general corporate networks and public internet access unless explicitly required for specific telehealth services with proper gateway protections. Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) can be configured as a temporary compensating control to block requests to the /DocManagment path if they lack valid authentication headers, although this is not a substitute for fixing the root cause in the application code. Regular security audits and penetration testing should also be conducted to verify that no other endpoints suffer from similar missing authorization flaws, ensuring comprehensive protection of sensitive patient data infrastructure.
