CVE-2025-58403 in CLININETinfo

Summary

by MITRE • 10/23/2026

CGM CLININET is vulnerable to Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) due to improper neutralization of user-supplied data. A remote unauthenticated attacker can craft a malicious URL containing JavaScript or HTML code, which is executed in the victim's browser when the URL is visited, allowing the attacker to steal session cookies and perform actions on behalf of the victim within the application.

The vulnerability was confirmed to affect versions up to 2026.MS3 but later versions may also be vulnerable.

Analysis

by VulDB Data Team • 10/23/2026

CGM CLININET suffers from a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability stemming from insufficient validation and sanitization of user-supplied input within the application's request handling mechanisms. This technical flaw allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to inject malicious scripts into HTTP responses that are subsequently executed by the victim's web browser. The core issue lies in the improper neutralization of special characters or script tags embedded in URL parameters, query strings, or other user-controlled fields before they are reflected back to the client side without adequate encoding or filtering.

The operational impact of this vulnerability is significant as it enables session hijacking and unauthorized actions within the application context. By crafting a maliciously constructed URL containing JavaScript code, an attacker can trick a victim into visiting the link through phishing or other social engineering tactics. Once visited, the injected script executes in the security context of the CLININET domain, granting the attacker access to sensitive data such as session cookies, authentication tokens, and potentially protected patient health information stored locally by the browser. This capability allows the adversary to impersonate legitimate users, bypassing standard authentication controls to perform actions that should require proper authorization.

From a classification perspective, this vulnerability aligns with CWE-79 Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation commonly known as Cross-site Scripting and is mapped to MITRE ATT&CK technique T1059 Command and Scripting Interpreter specifically under the sub-category for JavaScript execution within browser environments. The lack of input validation represents a fundamental security design flaw where trust in user input is incorrectly assumed, violating principles of secure coding that mandate strict whitelisting or robust encoding strategies for all dynamic content generation.

Mitigation efforts should prioritize immediate patching to versions later than 2026.MS3 if available and verified as fixed, although the advisory notes that subsequent releases may also remain vulnerable requiring careful verification before deployment. Developers must implement rigorous input validation on both client and server sides ensuring that any user-supplied data reflected in responses is properly encoded using context-aware encoding techniques such as HTML entity encoding for body content or URL encoding for query parameters. Additionally deploying a Web Application Firewall can provide an interim layer of defense by detecting and blocking common XSS payloads before they reach the application logic while long-term remediation focuses on refactoring code to adhere to secure development lifecycle standards that prevent injection attacks at their source rather than relying solely on perimeter defenses.
