CVE-2026-111708 in WhaTicket Communityinfo

Summary

by MITRE • 10/16/2026

WhaTicket Community through commit cf04795 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to self-register as administrators via POST /auth/signup. Attackers can omit the profile field or set it to admin, gaining user management, settings, and access to all tickets, contacts, messages, and WhatsApp connections.

The WhaTicket Community platform suffers from a critical authentication bypass vulnerability identified through code analysis of commit cf04795. This flaw resides within the self-registration endpoint located at POST /auth/signup. The core technical deficiency is an improper validation mechanism for user role assignment during account creation. Specifically, the application fails to enforce server-side restrictions on the profile or role field submitted by the client. An attacker can manipulate this input parameter either by omitting it entirely from the request payload or by explicitly setting its value to admin. In both scenarios, the backend logic incorrectly interprets these inputs as a directive to grant administrative privileges rather than defaulting to standard user permissions or rejecting invalid data structures. This represents a classic case of insecure direct object references combined with broken access control, where trust is placed in client-supplied data without adequate sanitization or authorization checks on the server side.

From an operational perspective, this vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to escalate their privileges immediately upon registration. By successfully exploiting this flaw, an attacker gains full administrative access to the WhaTicket instance. This level of access encompasses comprehensive control over user management capabilities, allowing the creation and deletion of other accounts with arbitrary roles. Furthermore, it grants unrestricted visibility into sensitive business data including all support tickets, customer contacts, internal messaging history, and configurations for WhatsApp connections. The ability to manipulate WhatsApp connection settings poses a severe risk as it could allow an attacker to hijack active sessions or redirect communications intended for legitimate customers. This effectively compromises the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the entire platform's operations, potentially leading to data breaches, reputational damage, and unauthorized communication interception.

This vulnerability aligns with CWE-269 Improper Privilege Assignment, as the system fails to correctly assign user privileges based on verified identity or authorization context. It also maps directly to MITRE ATT&CK technique T1078 Valid Accounts, specifically within the context of initial access and persistence through compromised administrative credentials. The exploitation path involves unauthenticated remote code execution in terms of privilege escalation, falling under T1136 Create Account when combined with the registration step. To mitigate this issue, developers must implement strict server-side validation for all role-related fields during account creation processes. Default roles should be hardcoded or derived from secure configuration sources rather than client input. Additionally, implementing a principle of least privilege ensures that new accounts are created with minimal permissions by default. Regular security audits and static code analysis focused on authentication flows can help identify similar logic flaws before they reach production environments.
