A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in ImageMagick (Image Processing Software) (version now known). This issue affects some unknown processing of the file coders/hdr.c of the component HDR File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Heap-based buffer overflow in coders/hdr.c in ImageMagick allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a crafted HDR file.
The bug was discovered 09/29/2016. The weakness was shared 04/20/2017 by Moshe Kaplan (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-7520 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
