The bug was discovered 09/29/2016. The weakness was disclosed 04/20/2017 by Moshe Kaplan (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-7535 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
