A vulnerability was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been rated as problematic. In Wireshark 2.2.0 to 2.2.7 and 2.0.0 to 2.0.13, the DOCSIS dissector could go into an infinite loop. This was addressed in plugins/docsis/packet-docsis.c by rejecting invalid Frame Control parameter values.
The bug was discovered 07/18/2017. The weakness was released 07/18/2017 as Bug 13797 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugs.wireshark.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-11406 since 07/17/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
