In Wireshark 2.2.0 to 2.2.5 and 2.0.0 to 2.0.11, the SLSK dissector could go into an infinite loop, triggered by packet injection or a malformed capture file. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-slsk.c by adding checks for the remaining length.
The bug was discovered 04/12/2017. The weakness was released 04/12/2017 as Bug 13576 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-7746 since 04/12/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
