A vulnerability was found in Nagios up to 4.4.1 (Log Management Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function qh_help of the component Unix Socket Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. qh_help in Nagios Core version 4.4.1 and earlier is prone to a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability, which allows attacker to cause a local denial-of-service condition by sending a crafted payload to the listening UNIX socket.
The bug was discovered 07/11/2018. The weakness was shared 07/12/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at gist.github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-13441 since 07/08/2018. Attacking locally is a requirement. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication.
