A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Apple QuickTime up to 7.7.4 (Multimedia Player Software). Affected is an unknown function of the component H.264 Handler. The manipulation as part of a Movie File leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in Apple QuickTime before 7.7.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted movie file with H.264 encoding.
The weakness was disclosed 02/25/2014 by Tom Gallagher (Paul) with Zero Day Initiative as HT6151 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-1244 since 01/08/2014. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
