A vulnerability has been found in Apple QuickTime up to 7.7.4 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as critical. Buffer overflow in Apple QuickTime before 7.7.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted clef atom in a movie file.
The weakness was presented 02/25/2014 by Aliz Hammond with Zero Day Initiative as HT6151 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-1251 since 01/08/2014. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
