Details
A vulnerability was found in LibRaw up to 0.18.8 (Image Processing Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function find_green of the file internal/dcraw_common.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An error within the "find_green()" function (internal/dcraw_common.cpp) in LibRaw versions prior to 0.18.9 can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow and subsequently execute arbitrary code.
The bug was discovered 05/30/2018. The weakness was disclosed 12/07/2018 by Laurent Delosieres with Secunia Research (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at secuniaresearch.flexerasoftware.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-5808 since 01/19/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
