A vulnerability was found in rdesktop up to 1.8.3 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function rdpsnddbg_process. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer underflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-191. The product subtracts one value from another, such that the result is less than the minimum allowable integer value, which produces a value that is not equal to the correct result. rdesktop versions up to and including v1.8.3 contain an Integer Underflow that leads to a Heap-Based Buffer Overflow in the function rdpsnddbg_process() and results in memory corruption and probably even a remote code execution.
The bug was discovered 02/05/2019. The weakness was shared 03/15/2019 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at research.checkpoint.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-20180 since 12/17/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
