Unspecified vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 through 6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via certain invalid HTML that causes memory corruption.

The weakness was released 04/11/2006 by Will Dormann with CERT/CC as MS06-013 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-1185 since 03/13/2006. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 21210 (MS06-013: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (912812)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100034 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update Missing (MS06-013)).

Applying the patch MS06-013 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 4302.
