A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 1.5.0.1 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component Javascript Regex Handler. Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird 1.x before 1.5.0.2 and 1.0.x before 1.0.8, Mozilla Suite before 1.7.13, and SeaMonkey before 1.0.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via "an invalid and non-sensical ordering of table-related tags" that results in a negative array index.
The weakness was released 04/13/2006 by Alden D'Souza (moz_bug_r_a4) with TippingPoint and the Zero Day Initiative as MFSA2006-12 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-0748 since 02/17/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 21225 (Firefox < 1.5.0.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 117722 (CentOS Security Update for Firefox (CESA-2006:0328)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at mozilla.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
