Avaya S87XX/S8500/S8300 Linux Kernel uninitialized resource

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Avaya S87XX, S8500 and S8300 (the affected version unknown). Affected is an unknown part of the component Linux Kernel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a uninitialized resource vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-908. The product uses or accesses a resource that has not been initialized. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

The dvd_read_bca function in the DVD handling code in drivers/cdrom/cdrom.c in Linux kernel 2.2.16, and later versions, assigns the wrong value to a length variable, which allows local users to execute arbitrary code via a crafted USB Storage device that triggers a buffer overflow.

The bug was discovered 07/05/2006. The weakness was shared 02/27/2007 by Marcus Meissner with Avaya (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.avaya.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-2935 since 06/09/2006. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 24212 (RHEL 2.1 : kernel (RHSA-2007:0013)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 156198 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Update for Kernel (ELSA-2006:0710)).

It is possible to mitigate the weakness by firewalling . A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
