Microsoft Excel 2000 SP3, 2002 SP3, 2003 SP2, 2003 Viewer, and Office Excel 2007 does not properly validate version information, which allows user-assisted remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Excel file, aka "Calculation Error Vulnerability".

The weakness was published 07/10/2007 with Microsoft as MS07-036 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-1756 since 03/29/2007. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
