The weakness was published 03/22/2012 by Martin Tschirsich with Technische Universität Darmstadt as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at archives.neohapsis.com. The public release happened without involvement of the project team. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-4870 since 09/06/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by Martin Tschirsich and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 282 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
