Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 through 9 allows user-assisted remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted HTML document that is not properly handled during a "Print table of links" print operation, aka "Print Feature Remote Code Execution Vulnerability."
The weakness was released 04/10/2012 by linx2008 with AISec as MS12-023 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated with Microsoft. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-0168 since 12/13/2011. The attack can be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a single authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58655 (MS12-023: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2675157)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Applying the patch MS12-023 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component.
