A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 (Web Browser). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component JScript9. Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 does not properly handle objects in memory, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by accessing a deleted object, aka "JScript9 Remote Code Execution Vulnerability."
The weakness was disclosed 04/10/2012 by Roel Spilker with TOPdesk as MS12-023 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-0169 since 12/13/2011. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58655 (MS12-023: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2675157)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100113 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update (MS12-023)).
Applying the patch MS12-023 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
