The weakness was published 01/13/2015 by Brian Smith as MFSA2015-08 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The public release has been coordinated with Mozilla. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-8642 since 11/06/2014. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue. The advisory points out:

Brian Smith reported that delegated Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) responder certificates fail to recognize the id-pkix-ocsp-nocheck extension. If this extension is present in a delegated OCSP response signing certificate, it will be discarded if it is signed by such a certificate. This could result in a user connecting to a site with a revoked certificate.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80538 (FreeBSD : mozilla -- multiple vulnerabilities (bd62c640-9bb9-11e4-a5ad-000c297fb80f)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 167588 (OpenSuSE Security Update for seamonkey (openSUSE-SU-2015:0192-1)).

Upgrading to version 35 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
