Linux Kernel up to 3.5.x llc Subsystem net/llc/af_llc.c getsockname information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 3.5.x (Operating System). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function getsockname of the file net/llc/af_llc.c of the component llc Subsystem. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

The weakness was disclosed 03/05/2013 by Mathias Krause as 2013/q1/589 as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The public release happened without involvement of Linux. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-6138 since 12/06/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at seclists.org. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at OSVDB (90967†) and Secunia (SA53053†). The entries VDB-7907, VDB-7908, VDB-7909 and VDB-7910 are pretty similar. If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
