A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Adobe Flash Player 11.6.602.171 on Windows (Multimedia Player Software). The weakness was published 03/07/2013 with VUPEN as confirmed tweet (Twitter) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared at twitter.com. The public release happened without involvement of Adobe. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-2555 since 03/10/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 65909 (Adobe AIR 3.x <= 3.6.0.6090 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB13-11)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166149 (SUSE Security Update for flash-player (openSUSE-SU-2013:0672-1)).
Upgrading to version 11.7.700.169 eliminates this vulnerability. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Microsoft Silverlight, Java or Javascript as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
