A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Wireshark up to 2.0.11/2.2.5 (Packet Analyzer Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the file epan/dissectors/packet-wsp.c of the component WSP Dissector. In Wireshark 2.2.0 to 2.2.5 and 2.0.0 to 2.0.11, the WSP dissector could go into an infinite loop, triggered by packet injection or a malformed capture file. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-wsp.c by adding a length check.
The bug was discovered 04/12/2017. The weakness was presented 04/12/2017 as Bug 13581 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-7748 since 04/12/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
