CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in IBM Lotus Domino up to 8.5.0 (Groupware Software). This issue affects the function MailCheck821Address in the library nnotes.dll of the file nrouter.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Stack-based buffer overflow in the MailCheck821Address function in nnotes.dll in the nrouter.exe service in the server in IBM Lotus Domino 8.0.x before 8.0.2 FP5 and 8.5.x before 8.5.1 FP2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long e-mail address in an ORGANIZER:mailto header in an iCalendar calendar-invitation e-mail message, aka SPR NRBY7ZPJ9V.

The weakness was released 09/14/2010 by A. Plaskett with MWR InfoSecurity (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-3407 since 09/16/2010. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/21/2025). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

A public exploit has been developed by A. Plaskett in Ruby and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 53534 (IBM Lotus Domino iCalendar Email Address ORGANIZER:mailto Header Remote Overflow), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SMTP problems. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 74248 (IBM Lotus Domino iCalendar Email Address Stack Buffer Overflow Vulnerability (swg21446515)).

Upgrading to version 8.5.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 6319.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (61790), Exploit-DB (15005), Tenable (53534), SecurityFocus (BID 43219†) and OSVDB (68040†). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
