A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in IBM Lotus Domino up to 8.5.0 (Groupware Software). This issue affects the function MailCheck821Address
in the library nnotes.dll of the file nrouter.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Stack-based buffer overflow in the MailCheck821Address function in nnotes.dll in the nrouter.exe service in the server in IBM Lotus Domino 8.0.x before 8.0.2 FP5 and 8.5.x before 8.5.1 FP2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long e-mail address in an ORGANIZER:mailto header in an iCalendar calendar-invitation e-mail message, aka SPR NRBY7ZPJ9V.
The weakness was released 09/14/2010 by A. Plaskett with MWR InfoSecurity (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-3407 since 09/16/2010. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/25/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.
