Stack-based buffer overflow in the plugin in Apple QuickTime before 7.7.2 on Windows allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted QTMovie object.

The weakness was shared 05/15/2012 by CHkr_D591 with Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) as APPLE-SA-2012-05-15-1 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is available at lists.apple.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-0666 since 01/12/2012. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 59113 (QuickTime < 7.7.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities (Windows)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
