A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Microsoft SharePoint, Lync and Infopath 2007/2010 (Groupware Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component HTML Sanitization. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a html injection vulnerability. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Microsoft InfoPath 2007 SP2 and SP3 and 2010 SP1, Communicator 2007 R2, Lync 2010 and 2010 Attendee, SharePoint Server 2007 SP2 and SP3 and 2010 SP1, Groove Server 2010 SP1, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP2, SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP1, and Office Web Apps 2010 SP1 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a crafted string, aka "HTML Sanitization Vulnerability."

The weakness was released 10/09/2012 by Drew Hintz with Google Security Team as MS12-066 as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-2520 since 05/09/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62461 (MS12-066: Vulnerability in HTML Sanitization Component Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2741517)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
